All children learn through play; they use toys as learning tools. Toys offer the reward of fun, enabling children with disabilities to learn new skills, which focuses on abilities rather than disabilities.
The Toy and Software Lending Library is a mobile program, designed to serve you in your own community. Our librarian travels throughout the County, using libraries, churches, recreation centers, Boys & Girls Clubs and other sites as meeting places.
The Library loans instructional toys and software to families who have children with disabilities. Check-out sessions usually occur every two weeks. In each visit to the Library mobile site or office, toys and their uses are demonstrated for each child. Parents then select, and check out the most appropriate items for their child for a two week period.
The librarian also assists parents with learning how to play with their children to develop cognitive, physical, emotional and social skills.
County-wide meeting sites are located in:
El Cajon, National City, Southeast San Diego, North Park, Chula Vista and San Marcos.
Families can also visit the Toy and Software Lending Library office at 8665 Gibbs Drive, Suite 100, San Diego, at pre-arranged times.
